Hotel sues Lloyd’s underwriters, HDI Global Specialty over denied insurance claim

A boutique hotel in New York City is suing its insurers over a denied insurance claim for over $1 million in property damage – damage that the hotel claims was caused by the homeless families it had sheltered for three years as part of a deal with a local social services group.

MAve Hotel Investors, owners of the MAve Hotel, filed its complaint this week against certain Lloyd’s of London underwriters and specialty insurer HDI Global Specialty SE. MAve alleges that the insurers must pay for damages the hotel discovered in its 74 guest rooms and common areas.
